We celebrate the range of languages spoken in our school with all classes in KS2 formally learning French on a weekly basis. In KS1 the children are introduced to a range of simple words and phrases in different languages. French, in KS2, is taught so that it can be fully integrated into class life using new language learnt, for example, linking to topics or answering the register.
To inspire the children to apply their French learning we hold an annual French Day and invite parents and the local community into school to a French Café each year. We also have pen-pals in a French school near Bordeaux and the children will use French in events such as class assemblies and cross curricular days.
